You are viewing the NORCAL Rep Club web page from the 1997-98 season. This season featured two teams advancing to USA Hockey Nationals, a Pacific Division title for the Blue Diamonds 12-u team, a run at the Tier II State Championship by the Midget team, and a lot of good hockey.

NORCAL Rep Bantams sweep Easter Tournament

The NORCAL Rep Bantam team traveled to the West Valley Easter tournament in North Hills over the weekend, and swept their way to the championship. Although scores are not yet available, they won all five of their games, including the Championship 6-1 over West Bay Polars Black Stars.

NORCAL Rep sends two teams to USA Hockey National Championships

Both the NORCAL Rep Pee Wee team and the NORCAL Rep Blue Diamonds Girls' 12-and-under team represented NORCAL Rep and NORCAL in their respective National Championships April 1-5. Aside from the Oakland Junior Spiders midget team in 1996, who were the host team at the Tier II Midget National Championships, these are the first teams from NORCAL (or NORCAL Rep) to represent the area in a National Tournament.

Visit the Pee Wee Team Page and the Blue Diamonds Team Page for the whole story.

Pee Wees selected to represent Pacific District at Nationals

The NORCAL Rep Pee Wees were selected to represent the Pacific District at the Tier I National Championships in Chicago, Illinois. The team that finished first in the regionals, Alaska, had already been given a bye into the National tournament when Minnkota elected not to send a team to Nationals. Because of their second place finish in the district, the Rep team was offered the spot and so represented the Pacific District in the tournament.

The tournament was held April 1-5 near Chicago, Illinois.

Pee Wees finish second in Pacific District

The NORCAL Rep Pee Wees faced a very strong Alaska team in the Pacific District Regionals championship game, but came out on the short end, 6-1. A second place finish in the district is a lot more than a lot of people expected, with the Pee Wees playing some great hockey, and representing California and NORCAL Rep quite well.

The NORCAL Rep Pee Wee team advanced to the championship game by beating Banff 7-6 in overtime at the Pacific District Tier I Regionals in Tacoma. They finished preliminary play with a 3-1 record, having earned a berth in the championship.

The Pee Wees' opener in Tacoma was an 8-1 loss to Alaska. However, they bounced back in style with two wins in a row, 4-2 over the Seattle Sno Kings, and 9-1 over Seattle Junior Hockey.

The NORCAL Rep Bantam team opened up the Tier I Regionals in Colorado Springs with a 3-2 win over Vail. They didn't fare as well Friday night, with a 6-3 loss to Seattle Junior Hockey. Then, in a hard-fought overtime game, they lost 5-4 to the Seattle Sno Kings. They finished off the tournament in the consolation game, beating Vail for a second time.

Dave Hazelwood named Pacific District Select 16 team assistant coach

Bantam head coach Dave Hazelwood has been named assistant coach of the Pacific District Select 16 team for 1998. For more details, see the Bantam team page.

NORCAL Rep Blue Diamonds win USA Hockey Pacific District Girls' 12-U Championship

The NORCAL Rep Blue Diamonds swept their way to the District Championship, beating the Alaska Firebirds 5-1 in Anchorage Alaska. The game was much closer than the score indicated. The Blue Diamonds fell behind in the first period, tied it up in the second, and scored the eventual game-winner with 7 minutes remaining in the third.

Teams

This is the official home page of the Northern California Representative Youth Hockey Club (NORCAL Rep). The NORCAL Rep Club is a member of the NCJHA (Northern California Junior Hockey Association), more often referred to as "NORCAL". The NORCAL Rep club intends to field seven youth hockey teams for the 97-98 season:

The NORCAL Rep home rink is Oakland Ice Center in Oakland, California.

Mission

The Northern California Representative Youth Hockey Club is dedicated to the interests and development of NORCAL hockey players who exhibit high levels of proficiency or potential. The Rep Club congregates many of the best players in Northern California, exposes them to great coaching and other great players, then allows them to develop their skills in the most challenging environment. The Rep Club emphasises individual skill development, sportsmanship, hard work and team play. The Rep tier teams compete at the highest level possible (AA and AAA), where winning is a by-product, not the only objective.

Competition

Our competition is fierce. The Rep tier teams played 40-80 games each last season, including 21 games in the Southwest tier league against teams from the Western United States. In addition, tournament play and multi-game weekends with local and out-of-town teams were scheduled. Last season, four teams from the Southwest league advanced to the National Tier II Championships, with the L. A. Wildcats Bantam team winning the Bantam National Championship.

Coaching Staff

The Rep coaching staff is second to none in Northern California:

New Squirt Team

1998 saw the formation of a new Rep Squirt team, who played in the Southwest League this season. Players skated on their club Squirt teams, and participated with the Rep Club on a limitied basis. They played a 14-game Southwest League schedule in Tacoma, Washington, Los Angeles and Phoenix, Arizona.

For more information about the NORCAL Rep Tier program, please call the club president, Chuck Collins, 408-241-4798.
