NORCAL with 3 second place finishes at California State Tier I/II Championships
3/6/00

The NORCAL Rep midgets lost a close 4-2 decision to the West Valley Wolves in the Championship game of the midget Tier II State Championships. Despite a flurry of action in front of the Wolves' net in the closing seconds, West Valley added an empty net goal to seal the game.

Both teams advance to the Pacific District Tier II regional tournament in Lakewood in two weeks, where they will face each other again.

The bantams put in a valiant effort, but were the victims of two goals by the Westminster Wave 40 seconds apart in the second period, which gave them a 2-1 lead. The score stood at 2-1 until two late empty net goals by Westminster sealed the game.

Both teams advance to the Pacific District Tier II regional tournament in Las Vegas in two weeks.

The NORCAL Rep Pee Wee 1 team faced off against the LA Jr. Kings in the Pee Wee Tier I California State Championships. The format was a best 2-out-of-3, and although both games were hotly contested, the Junior Kings prevailed in both games, by scores of 6-3 and 4-1.

These teams also both advance to the Pacific District Tier I Championships in Portland this coming weekend.

NORCAL Rep Club with strong showing at SYHL Championships
1/17/00

Four of the NORCAL Rep Club teams participated in the Southwestern League Championships in Escondido over the weekend. Strong performances were put in by all four teams, but no championships resulted.

The NORCAL Rep Squirt team ended preliminary play 4-0, moving to the semi-final as the first seed from their division. However, they ran into a strong and determined Dallas team, who prevailed 5-2. That game marked the only loss for the squirts this year. Dallas went on to win championship over West Valley.

The NORCAL Rep Bantam team lost their first game of the tournament to South Coast, then ran off three straight victories to earn a place in the quarterfinal round. The bantams ran into another determined team from Dallas, losing 4-1.

The NORCAL Rep Pee Wee 2 team, like the bantams, started off with a loss, also to Dallas, but Dallas' success over NORCAL Rep did not hold past this preliminary game. The Pee Wees then followed with two convincing wins, followed by a 4-3 victory over Utah, which earned them a spot in the quarterfinals. The next faced the L. A. Ice Dogs, last year's #2 team in the state. But the Ice Dogs were no match for the Rep Pee Wees, who notched an 8-1 win to advance to the semi-finals. The semis saw the Reps facing Dallas. In three previous meetings, Dallas had 2 wins and a tie. But that streak was an at end, as the Reps soundly defeated Dallas 6-2 to earn a spot in the finals against Phoenix. But the Cinderella finish was not to be, as the Phoenix team won the final 3-1.

The NORCAL Rep midgets breezed through preliminary play with 4 wins, followed by a convincing 4-0 win over perennial rival San Diego to earn a berth in the championship game. The midgets faced off against a strong L. A. Ice Dogs team for the trophy. After trailing through almost all of the game, the Rep midgets fought back to tie the score at 2 with under 5 minutes remaining, and that's where the score stood at the end of regulation. The teams took to the ice for a 10-minute overtime period, and after 6 minutes of overtime play, the Ice Dogs scored a goal to win the championship.

Derek Eisler Moves On
7/30/99

Derek Eisler, NORCAL Rep Midget Coach for the last 3 seasons, has accepted a job to coach a Junior A team and plans to move to the midwest before the start of the upcoming hockey season. Derek will be an assistant coach with the Rochester Mustangs of the USHL, in Rochester, Minnesota.

Derek was instrumental in the success the Rep Club has enjoyed, culminating in three California State Championships last season. One of the architects of the Rep program, Derek consistently exhibited unparalleled intensity and a dedication to the game and the players. Replacing Derek will be a hard task.

Last season, the NORCAL Rep Midgets won their 100th game under Derek. But more important to Derek than the state and regional championships, his proudest accomplishments were the hockey players who moved on from our program to play at higher levels: Mike Adamek in Grand Rapids Junior A in the USHL; Josh Angevine playing varsity hockey at Cushing Academy as a freshman; Mark Adamek, Marcus Baxter and Cameron Lee playing Midget AAA in Colorado. (Cameron is playing this year at Kent State U in Ohio.) From last year's squad, Ricky Cazares, Drew Sanders, Jason Marconcini and Andy Whiteside move up to Midget AAA programs in the midwest and Colorado, Nikki Matzke and Chris Dang will play Junior B in Ohio, and Ian Fazzi is playing hockey in prep school in New York state (Northfield).

Aside from teaching his players how to play, understand and respect the game, he also made sure that every one of the players learned how to be responsible and independent. The players learned as many life skills as hockey skills.

We wish Derek the best in his new endeavor, and will keep an eye in the Hockey News to see how his team is doing. (Follow this link to an article in the Rochester Post-Bulletin about the Mustangs coaching staff.)

1999-00 Mission

The NORCAL Rep Youth Hockey Club is dedicated to the interests and development of youth hockey players from Northern California who exhibit high levels of proficiency or potential. The Rep Club congregates many of the best players in Northern California, exposes them to great coaching and other great players, then allows them to develop their skills in the most challenging environment. The Rep Club emphasizes individual skill development, sportsmanship, hard work and team play. The Rep tier teams compete at the highest level possible (AA and AAA), where winning is a by-product, not the only objective.

Competition

Our competition is fierce. The Rep tier teams played 40-80 games each last season, including 21 games in the Southwestern Youth Hockey League against Tier II and Tier I teams from the Western United States. In addition, tournament play and multi-game weekends with local and out-of-town teams were scheduled.
